Senior Class & Alumni Celebration
An alumni celebration was held in the 1999-2000 school year in conjunction with Nelson County High School’s 30th anniversary. That event, in one form or another, has been held every year since.
During its first years, the celebration featured a sit-down meal and was held in conjunction with a ballgame and/or homecoming activities. For several years, students who had scored a distinguished on the CATS assessment were also recognized. In the last few years, the celebration has become a reception to honor alumni and to welcome graduating seniors to their approaching status as alumni.
During its first years, the celebration was sponsored by the school district. For the past several years, the event has been hosted by the Nelson County Education Endowment Fund.
Now called the Senior Class & Alumni Celebration, the event ties together those who left a Nelson County school years ago with those almost ready to walk the aisle at graduation ceremonies. Each year an outstanding alumnus is presented the T. Gerald Florence Award. A number of graduates are also recognized as distinguished alumni. During the celebration, NCEEF presents several awards and scholarships to graduating seniors.
If you are an alumnus or a graduating senior, please plan to attend this annual affair. It occurs each year in the spring. Watch local media and the school district Web site for information.
